New capital for Egypt

Egypt has embarked on the bold new venture of building a new and improved capital city. The as yet to be named area is being referred to as “the Smart City in the desert” and will serve as the administrative capital of the country.

The city aims to replace the traffic and complications of the current capital city of Cairo with lush greenery, luxury housing, and modern technology. The new space will cover 700 square kilometers, roughly the size of Singapore, and will be able to house up to 5 million people.

Critics say that the city will not attract anyone but the wealthy who can afford the high prices of real estate, while those in favour say that it is simply time to move away from overpopulated and over polluted Cairo.
